Innovative Women’s Health Products

Putting women’s health in women’s hands.

UNICEF estimates that 1 in 10 menstruating African girls skip school every month or drop out completely. Millions of girls are using old and dirty material, newspaper, leaves, and cow-dung in place of safe secure sanitary wear. Commercial disposable sanitary towels are often unavailable or too expensive, bulky to transport and difficult to dispose of hygienically. There is little support, education or understanding about puberty and sexual health among young women. Fear, superstition, and embarrassment causes girls to miss up to 50 days of school each year or drop out completely.

Project Mwezi frees East African women and girls from the disruptions that menstruation can bring to their education, economic and social activities. Our reusable cloth towel is a sanitary and sustainable solution that women can make for themselves by hand, using materials found at their local market.

Project Mwezi provides the practical training and health education women need to take their health into their own hands.
